Last month I visited Poland from England. Being an Englishman I obviously did not know the Polish language, therefore I experienced many problems for this reason. I wanted someone who could have translated the language, i.e. I needed a translator Polish to English, but I was unable to find one.
The issues started from day one of my visit. The accommodation I was living in interestingly did not have any fluent English speaking attendants. Only a manager was able to speak with me. Right from the door keeper to the waiter, everyone Polish! Annoyed I made a decision to take a walk around the hotel. While roaming, I came across a Flower supplier - lovely daffodils and sweet roses filled her flower bouquet.
I asked her about the price of one flower bunch but the woman just kept staring at me for 5 long minutes. Having already gotten used to the treatment I decided to get a lad who could translate Polish to English. Yet as I mentioned I searched, but could not find one. The tour thus had this kind of incidences all the while.
Thankfully my work was not of talking to the Polish people very much, therefore I was able to concentrate on my work. Occasionally such events occurred to amuse me, that people can be so reluctant to learn the worldwide language. Yes you may say that was real patriotism, but in the search of real patriotism they lost a few foreign currency which could have had some effect on the economy!
But I was too ignorant to enter a foreign language country and not understanding anything regarding them. Now that I have returned, I am studying the Polish language - at least partially. Finally as they say in Polish - pozegnanie. (I used a translation Polish to English software program for the last sentence)
