Sharon had been engaging in excessive drinking behavior since her junior year in college. Now, three years later, she drank more than ever. One Friday evening when she wasn't feeling all that well, Sharon decided to stay home, lighten up, and watch television. While seeking to find something to watch that she would find appealing, she immediately got interested in a special program about teenage and young adult drinking problems.
The spokesperson discussed the difference between alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction and then got into the topic of alcoholic symptoms and alcoholic behavior. When the narrator discussed an individual's symptoms of withdrawal and some of the more common alcoholism signs and symptoms that people dependent on alcohol exhibit, Sharon got quite worried because it basically seemed as if the narrator was talking directly to her.
After watching the television program, Sharon promised herself that she would telephone her health care provider the next workday and make an appointment to discuss her abusive and irresponsible drinking.
When the following morning arrived, true to her word, Sharon called her doctor and scheduled an appointment. In the meantime, she went online and did a search for alcoholism symptoms. Especially noteworthy were the following signs or symptoms: increasing tension, significant employment and relationship difficulties, sleep issues, making excuses to drink at almost every chance, and sneaking extra drinks before social events.
Simply put, since Sharon exhibited all of these symptoms she went further in her Internet search and found a number of websites and blogs that featured diverse alcoholic warning signs and symptoms. One of the symptoms that really caught her attention was the following: "Do you often drink after telling yourself that you won't?"
Another alcoholism symptom that grabbed her awareness was the following: "Have individuals pestered you by criticizing your abusive and excessive drinking?" A third alcohol addiction warning sign was the following: "Do you want a drink when you first awaken in the morning?"
The final alcohol dependency warning sign that made her feel especially anxious about her excessive and abusive drinking was the following: "Has your ambition dropped off since you started drinking more frequently?" When Sharon read this sign she plainly comprehended that drinking had become a major issue in her life because of her lack of energy and also because she gave up pursuing her passions and her dreams.
After reflecting on all of these destructive alcoholism signs and symptoms, Sharon at first felt morose. Then something remarkable occurred. She reflected on the fact knew that she was going to see her health care provider about her excessive and abusive drinking and she also reflected on the fact that that she would talk about her alcoholism warning signs and symptoms.
